A SERIOUS crash on the M62 this morning had a knock on effect on traffic in Bradford, with lanes closing before 8am and not reopening until 2:30pm

The M62 Westbound was closed between J24 (Huddersfield) and J22 (Denshaw), with Highways England confirming that this was due to a crash between a HGV lorry and a Volkswagen van.

An air ambulance landed on the M62 and a man was taken to Leeds General Infirmary following the crash.

Motorway cop PC Dave Cant confirming that Highways officers were also on the scene to assist trapped vehicles.

There was approx 5.5 miles of congestion at one point, adding at least 45 minutes onto normal travel times.

Highways England had issued a warning statement at 10am, saying: "Yorkshire Air Ambulance has now left the scene.

"However, the road is expected to remain closed for several hours to allow West Yorkshire Police to conduct collision investigation.

"Traffic is being diverted and should follow the solid square symbol. Exit at J24 and join the A629 travelling north for approximately three miles.

"At Calderdale Royal Hospital, turn left onto the A646 and continue for approximately one mile.

"At the A58 junction, turn left and travel for approximately four miles to the junction of the A672.

"Travel south and rejoin the M62 at J22.

"There are long delays in the area so please plan ahead if travelling this morning."
