AN award-winning interactive show for young people with a keen interest in medicine and studying the human body is coming to Bradford next month.

Operating Theatre Live will be taking place at Parkside School in Cullingworth on Saturday, June 22, giving teenagers the opportunity to see first-hand how trauma doctors work in the operating theatre.

Aimed at youngsters aged 14 to 19-years-old, or on ‘Access Courses’, teens with a interest in studying anatomy, pathology or medicine at university are urged to sign up to take part.

Operating Theatre Live caught many people’s eyes when its owner and director Samuel Piri, a former secondary school teacher, appeared on Dragons’ Den in 2018.

He successfully secured investment from Peter Jones and Deborah Meaden.

Operating Theatre Live offers the UK’s only touring surgical experience, which it says gives an “academically rigorous educational experience”.

This incredible, immersive operating theatre experience will give your child the opportunity to dissect real specimens led by human anatomist Samuel Piri and his team of clinicians.

During the event, young people will take on the role of a trauma doctor, and bring the systems of the human body alive through dissections of real organs.

It said: “This incredible, immersive operating theatre experience will give your child the opportunity to dissect real specimens led by human anatomist Samuel Piri and his team of clinicians.

“The events secure and challenge students to explore careers in medicine and healthcare in a mission to raise engagement in STEM subjects and take students on an experience into healthcare and human anatomy like never before.”

Students will work systematically through a complete dissection of the human body, using a human body-shaped dummy, which is filled with organs harvested from animals which would normally be disposed of as waste in the meat industry.

Students are taught a variety of important clinical skills including how to interpret X-rays, and linking symptoms to a clinical diagnosis.

There is the opportunity to ask questions throughout and also to handle anatomical samples and even undertake some dissections of organs for students.

The post-mortem style experience gives students the chance to explore disease and pathology and work on real specimens using a real surgeon’s tools,

It allows the doctors and surgeons of tomorrow the opportunity to discover the intricate structures of the anatomy and how they function to keep us alive.

Mr Piri, who founded the programme, said: “I personally write the academic content and produce all of the activities myself.
