MORE than 200 dangerous drivers were spotted by an unmarked lorry cab in the past year in a bid to make Yorkshire’s motorways safer.

The cab, funded by Highways England, has patrolled thousands of miles in the past 12 months.

Dangerous driving spotted includes a truck driver travelling on the motorway with both hands off the wheel while he was on his phone.

Richard Leonard, head of road safety at Highways England, said: “We introduced the cabs last year to help keep the roads safe and tackle dangerous driving by people who have either got into bad habits or are simply ignoring the law.

“We hope they will encourage everyone to think about what more they could do to improve how they drive.”

Police have issued 89 penalty notices, reported 107 drivers and prosecuted six thanks to the new cabs.
