MAJOR improvement work at a junction of the M62 in the area has been completed after months of work.
Upgrades Junction 27 for Gildersome and Birstall have now been completed, with new lanes on the westbound exit slip roads of the M62 and M621, and additional space on the southern end of the roundabout.
Highways England funded the work to ease congestion at peak times at the junction.
Esref Ulas, project manager for Highways England, said: "At busy times, the congestion at junction 27 was impacting drivers on the M62 main carriageway, and this is an issue which we wanted to address.
“The work will reduce congestion on this vital route, and I want to thank drivers for their patience while the work was taking place.”
Meanwhile, Highways England expects improvement work at Junction 28 for Tingley to be completed by the end of the month.
