Thanks to T&A reader Sylvia Palmer, this week’s nostalgia feature is a step back to May 1949, when pantomime favourite Cinderella - also presented at the Alhambra in 1947-48, starring June Whitfield and Wilfred Pickles - concluded its successful run at the Leeds Grand Theatre. Sylvia, one of the twelve Sunbeams, plus a reserve, was lucky enough to star alongside the TV greats. The youngsters trained at the Alhambra Theatre during the day before lodging at a private house in Warwick Place, Leeds.

The Sunbeams had short bobbed haircuts with a fringe, and were no taller than 4ft 2in. They lived and trained together, supervised by a matron, and went to Blenheim School.

Dressed alike in brown hats and coats, all provided by Alhambra founder Mr. Francis Laidler, the Sunbeams' fee was 10 shilling a week, with an extra half-crown thrown in by Mr. Wilfred Pickles.

If you were one of the 1948-49 Sunbeams, an integral part of the Laidler pantomime, then please get in touch. We'd love to hear from you. E-mail Odele.ayres@telegraphandargus.co.uk
