A MAN has spoken of his shock after he discovered two burglars had tried to get into his home with a blow torch.

Javaid Razzaq, from Thornton Road, reviewed his CCTV to find two men with their hoods pulled up spent around 15 minutes trying to burn the handle on his back door before abandoning the scene and leaving empty-handed in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 28-year-old, only noticed the substantial damager to the door more than 48 hours after the would-be burglars left because neither him nor his wife used the exit.

Mr Razzaq said they only use the door if they are putting their bins out or are hanging washing on the line, and discovered the door had been damaged on Tuesday morning.

He explained: “It’s a door we don’t use much and we only realised what had gone on when my wife went out of it on Tuesday morning.

"She noticed the door and said someone has tried to get into the house.

"The lock was hanging off and when I looked at the CCTV outside, we saw what had gone on.

"The police mentioned to me that burglars do try and use blow torches to get locks off.

"You can see on the CCTV that there are flames and sparks coming from it."

Mr Razzaq, who lives in the home with his wife, said he will now have to replace the door after the burglars burned through the handle, but left without entering the home.

He added: "I was shocked by what I saw and what they had done to my door.

"It surprised me because of the lengths they were going to to get the door open and try to get in."

We reported in October last year about a burglar, Mohammed Yasin, and his three accomplices, who raided a property in Glen Rise, Baildon, making off with computer equipment, an iPhone, an XBox and the keys to a VW Golf that they stole from the scene.

Yasin had burned off the front door lock with a blow torch and searched downstairs while the family were asleep.
