THE historic Shipley Glen Tramway will be holding its annual Founders Day later this month.

The Tramway first opened to the public on May 18 1895 and to mark the anniversary the volunteer run attraction holds a celebration to mark its history.

Anyone who brings an old 1d or 1/2p on the day, the cost of a ticket at one point in the tramway’s history, will get to ride for free.

And free rides will also be offered to anyone who is wearing Victorian or Edwardian clothing.

The attraction is the oldest working cable tramway in the country.

It was opened by Sam Wilson, a local entrepreneur to allow people to travel from Saltaire up the steep slope of Shipley Glen to visit the numerous attractions that were based at the top.

It is now run by a charity.
