THE annual St George’s Day Scout Parade through Bradford city centre took place on Sunday, with hundreds of people lining the streets for the parade.

Scouting groups from across Bradford took part in the annual event to celebrate the dragon-slaying saint.

Hundreds of girls and boys of all ages marched from City Hall to Bradford Cathedral, where a service was held, before marching back to Centenary Square carrying flags and marching to the beat of drums and brass instruments of the Queensbury Scout Group Marching Band – The Revolution Show Corps.

The Lord Mayor of Bradford Councillor Zafar Ali joined scouts, cubs and beavers for the event, saluting the scouts as they filed into Centenary Square at the end of the march.

Alison Walton, Bradford South District Commissioner, said: “St George’s Day is always a great event for our young people and proud day from their families.

"We’d like to thank Bradford Council, the Cathedral team and the community for supporting our event and making it a fantastic day for the Scouts taking part.”

John Reynolds, Bradford North District Assistant Commissioner, added: “This is an occasion where all Scouts from across the city gather and work together to create such a wonderful event.

"As always it’s good to see young people and volunteers being recognised in Bradford.”

Away from Bradford city centre, St George’s Day Scout Parades were also held in Bingley and Skipton, while the march in Keighley was held earlier this month.

St George’s Day falls on April 23, and Lord Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the Boys Scout Association and Girl Guides, chose St George to be the patron saint of Scouting, as well as being England’s patron saint.
