A NEW festival has been planned for Bingley - and it will take place on the dates originally set aside for the 2019 Bingley Music Live.

The Bingley Weekender has been organised by Glen Shaw, President of Bingley Rugby Club and SSD Concerts - which was working on this year's Bingley Music Live when the announcement was made this week by Bradford Council that the event would no longer be going ahead.

The event will bring "International touring artists, great food and street theatre" to the rugby club's grounds.

The organisers said the event "will provide a welcome boost to the local economy and the standard of the lineup has enough appeal to draw people from further afield to visit the town."

Bingley Music Live, the biggest festival in Bradford's calendar, cancelled for 2019

Bingley Music Live attracted tens of thousands of people to the town each year, and after the Council announcement that it had been cancelled, many businesses raised concerns that they would lose out on vital income these visitors bring.

The club has historically ran the campsite for the cancelled council run event.

Bingley Weekender will take place on August 30th/31st and September 1st, and ticket details and line up announcements will be made next week.

Mr Shaw said: "'We've a track record of creating a great atmosphere with the campers at Bingley and are excited at the prospect of hosting some great artists."

The Rugby club will also have spaces for people wishing to camp/ glamp at the event.

Bradford Council announced the cancellation of Bingley Live on Tuesday.

Local hotelier Paul Midgley from the Mercure said: "This will be great for the local economy and to have an event like this right on the doorstep will be great for local residents and for business."
