A MAN has been spared jail for a series of attacks on vehicles in the NCP Car Park in Norfolk Gardens, Bradford city centre, on February 13 last year.
Drug addict Suliman Shah smashed the window of a Volkswagen Golf to steal a SatNav, sunglasses and a music system worth £1,180, Bradford Crown Court heard on Friday.
Shah, 26, of Duckworth Lane, Bradford, had a drill, a torch, a Swiss Army knife, balaclava and gloves with him at the time, prosecutor Camille Morland said.
He went on to attempt to steal from three more vehicles on the car park at the same time.
Shah pleaded guilty to theft, going equipped and three offences of attempted theft.
Miss Morland said he did £700 damage to a Porsche, £400 damage to a VW Golf and £112 damage to a Tiguan.
Shah had 16 previous convictions for 33 offences, including possession of Class A drugs with intent to supply, battery and dangerous driving.
The court heard he began taking drugs after the break-up of his marriage and ran up a substantial debt.
He was now drug free and anxious to gain employment.
Judge David Hatton QC sentenced Shah to 11 months imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, with 150 hours of unpaid work and a rehabilitation activity requirement with the probation service.
