A MAN has pleaded guilty to setting fire to a Bradford takeaway and doing more than £30,000 damage in an alleged revenge attack.
Waqas Ali, 22, of Donisthorpe Street, West Bowling, Bradford, is due to be sentenced at Bradford Crown Court on June 7.
He admitted arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered at Waji’s Takeaway Shop, belonging to Wajid Ashgar, in Manchester Road on August 25 last year.
Ali’s defence barrister, Stephen Wood, told the court on Friday that the offence was a revenge attack.
He said the dispute stemmed from an alleged unpaid salary.
Judge Colin Burn adjourned sentence for probation and psychiatric reports.
Mr Wood asked that Ali’s bail continue until the next hearing so he could meet up with the professionals drawing up the reports.
“While the form of sentence is almost inevitable, it will make it a lot easier if he is on bail,” Mr Wood said.
Ali’s bail was enlarged until the next hearing.
During that hearing, an interpreter will be provided for Ali.
