A man was assaulted near Staygate roundabout this afternoon, causing a two lane closure and very slow traffic.

A West Yorkshire Police statement said: "Police were called to Rooley Lane, Bradford at about 4.16pm this afternoon to a report of an assault on a male in the roadway.

"The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to facial injuries and a police scene was established at the location, requiring traffic to be diverted while forensic work was conducted there.

"Active enquiries are ongoing into the incident."

The incident occurred on Rooley Lane, westbound from Bierley Lane (Bierley Roundabout) to M606 J3 (Staygate Roundabout).

Lanes two and three (of three) are closed, causing traffic to merge on to the M606 entry slip road.

Delays are not helped by usual congestion on this stretch. Police are directing traffic.

Eyewitnesses have told the Telegraph & Argus that traffic is still being diverted down the M606.
