FOUR fire engines from West Yorkshire attended a blaze where piles of tyres set on fire in Cooper Bridge, between Mirfield and Brighouse, late this morning.
The tyres were piled on land rented near White Cottage Car Sales.
Thick, black smoke could be seen for miles.
A spokesman for the company said they had not been affected but had been warned to be vigilant as fire crews put out the blaze.
He said the tyres were on rented land at the bottom of their premises but he did not know who they belonged to.
"The smoke was going straight up so it didn't affect us," he said.
By 1pm the fire had been brought under control and crews remained at the scene to dampen it down.
