A BRADFORD biomedical scientist has been awarded the 'rising star' award at this year's Advancing Healthcare Awards at the Park Plaza Hotel, in London.
Chloe Knowles was rewarded for her role in digitising the pathology laboratory at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds, making it the first laboratory in the UK to be 100 per cent digital.
The award recognises a colleague or member of staff who has shown an exceptional level of initiative, skill and commitment, and who has been a qualified allied health professional or healthcare scientist for less than five years.
Mrs Knowles is a biomedical scientist in histopathology at St James’s University Hospital in Leeds. She worked with Leica Biosystems to implement a full digital pathology workflow in the NHS histopathology department.
She said, ''The AHAwards was a great day celebrating the hard work that AHPs and Healthcare Scientists do to improve healthcare for patients. I was honoured to be nominated, and to win the award was really special. It was fantastic to see biomedical science being represented by some really amazing people.''
