Foodies rejoice ahead of Tees Valley summer of excellent food

THE North-East is known far and wide as a producer of excellent food and drink, and the time has never been better to taste what our region has to offer.

A variety of food festivals, farmers’ markets, and culinary events will be held across Tees Valley in 2019. Here are just a few of the delights in store for North-East foodies over the next few months…

Orange Pip Market

Starting Saturday, April 27

12noon to 7pm

Middlesbrough

Baker Street, Bedford Street and Albert Road, in Middlesbrough, will be taken over by Pip-fever on the last Saturday of the month, from April to September.

The artisan food and drink market will feature dishes from all over the globe, alongside live, family entertainment, as well as cooking and craft workshops and demonstrations.

Darlington Food & Drink Festival

Friday, May 3 to Monday, May 6

Darlington Town Centre

Darlington’s exciting food fest returns to the town, with a menagerie of cuisine sure to delight foodies everywhere.

Thanks to a new partnership with Darlington Jazz Festival, there will also be plenty of finger-snapping live music to enjoy whilst you eat and shop.

Walking through the Street Food Market is sure to set your taste buds tingling every day of the festival, while you pick up new tips and tricks at the live cooking demonstration marquee, or try local tastes of Tees Valley at the Local Food Producers Market, both open Saturday to Monday.

Northern Dales Farmers’ Markets

This popular farmers’ market, which was named as one of the Top 20 UK Farmers’ Markets by the Telegraph, will be appearing at Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Stokesley, Preston Park, and Wynyard Hall throughout 2019. Upcoming markets include:

Sunday, April 21 – Wynyard Hall Farmers' Market

Sunday, April 28 – Stewart Park Food Festival, Middlesbrough

Saturday, May 4– Stokesley Farmers' Market

Saturday, May 11 – Hartlepool Historic Quay

Sunday, May 12 – Preston Park, Stockton-on-Tees

Saltburn Food Festival

Saturday, July 28

10am to 6pm

The beautiful North-East seaside town has its own food festival to match where, alongside the delicious traditional fish and chips, there will be plenty more delights to choose from.

The Sunday Times gave the Saltburn Food Festival as a reason why Saltburn is “one of the best places to live in the UK”, and it isn’t hard to see why.

The event will feature more than 100 stalls selling food from all over the North-East and North Yorkshire, along with entertainment, art displays, and cooking demonstrations.

If all that isn’t enough to whet your appetite then take a look at the many other big events happening across Tees Valley this summer including BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Take That, Jess Glynne and the Great North CityGames.
