THE sound of Motown is continuing to wow crowds at the Alhambra.
Hit show Motown the Musical, which ends a two-week run at the Bradford theatre on Saturday, is packed with more than 50 tracks from the giants of soul.
The musical tells the story of how songwriter Berry Gordy founded the Detroit record label, with a loan of $800, and went on to change the sound of America - introducing such acts as Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson and the Jackson 5.
A talented cast, accompanied by a live orchestra, delivers such hits as Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, I’ll Be There, Dancing In The Street, Stop! In The Name Of Love, My Girl, I Heard It through the Grapevine and ABC. A spokesman said: “A dynamic cast, showstopping choreography and breathtaking costumes bring to life the story of Berry Gordy, his relationship with music legend Diana Ross, and how he copes when the hits begin to dry up.”
