A NURSERY in Idle has retained its Good rating from Ofsted following a recent inspection.

Cute Companions Day Nursery, in Leeds Road was praised for its care for children with special education needs or disabilities.

Ofsted said: "Staff support children with SEND very well, and provide children with individually tailored support.

"Staff promote children's literacy skills very well. They read stories using good expression, leave time for children to join in and encourage them to predict what might happen next.

"Children enjoy being outdoors in the very interesting garden. They display high levels of curiosity as they explore natural materials and play with purpose.

"Staff use their knowledge of children well to plan purposeful activities that engage them in learning from the moment they start to attend.

"Staff develop very strong partnerships with parents. This starts from the moment that children start to attend nursery.

"Parents speak very highly of the nursery and are pleased with their children's progress. They feel that their children are very safe in the nursery. Parents describe staff as 'caring, adaptable and supportive'."

To become Outstanding, Cute Companions was told to provide highly challenging activities for more able children to extend their learning even further, and to strengthen maths teaching, particularly in shapes, space and measurements and use play to develop children's understanding of weight, speed and distance.
