SALTAIRE will be celebrating its UNESCO World Heritage status in style for this year’s World Heritage Day with a special sun-downer event.

Roberts Park will come to life as the sun sets on Easter Saturday, April 20.

The spring evening will see a craft and food market as well as live music and an Easter egg hunt in the park.

Local group, Saltaire Shakespeare, will bring a sense of theatre to the occasion, with a whole host of comedy mash-ups.

The grand finale of the evening will be a spectacular lantern parade by Cecil Green Arts, which will bring a riot of colour to the usually tranquil site.

The craft and food market will feature locally produced goods and stalls from community groups. The bandstand will host the Guiseley Jazz Band, who will bring a mixture of vocal and instrumental jazz in styles from the 1920s to the 1970s.

There will also be music from Jamba Samba, a funky community samba band based in Keighley.

The event is being organised by the Bradford Council’s Parks Department, the Friends of Roberts Park (who will run the Easter egg hunt), and local community arts group Cecil Green Arts.

The event runs from 5pm to 9pm and the parade will start at the bandstand at around 8.30pm.

People are encouraged to bring along their own homemade lanterns to join ones already made at a series of lantern making workshops, which were held in the run up to the event.

There will also be plenty of spare lanterns on hand so there’s no excuse not to join in.
