PLANS to turn a former school gym in Bingley into houses have been approved by Bradford Council.

The former Bingley Technical College building on Mornington Road was recently demolished to make way for housing.

But the rear gym building was retained, and earlier this year plans to convert the building into two houses was submitted to Bradford Council by Intu Developments.

The plans have been approved this week by planning officers.

Housing plans for site of Priesthorpe Annexe in Bingley

The gym building is on the corner of Kell Street and Klyde Street, and under the plans it will be converted into two, four bed homes.

Overgrown scrubland on the site will be converted into parking spaces for the two houses and garden space.

The gymnasium building is an early 20th century addition to the school.

Council Heritage Officer Jon Ackroyd said; "The proposed conversion will ensure the retention of the building, which has been disused and deteriorating for a number of years."

A separate application to build six houses on the school site will be decided later this month.
