A plan to build 114 houses on the former Cleckheaton Mills site, off the A638 Bradford Road in Cleckheaton, has been approved at a meeting.

Amended plans for the new homes on a former industrial site had been recommended for approval, and the council’s Strategic Planning Committee agreed with the recommendation.

The scheme by Swift Properties, originally received planning permission in 2015, however the developer decided to change the house types on 110 of the plots.

At the same meeting, councillors voted to approve an extensive renovation of a 150-year-old mill on the outskirts of Huddersfield.

The move has delighted Andrew Lindsay, owner of Stanley Mills in Milnsbridge, who said the largely redundant building would now be turned into a mixture of flats and light industrial units . Clr Carole Pattison (Lab, Greenhead) backed saving the mill with her colleague Clr Andrew Pinnock (Lib Dem, Cleckheaton) describing it as “a building worthy of renovation”.
