A SUMMER of event are planned to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the founding of the official charity of Yorkshire County Cricket Club.

The Yorkshire Cricket Foundation, the charitable arm of the club, was founded a decade ago to deliver community projects across the county to make a positive and lasting impact on people's lives through the power of cricket.

Yorkshire has a proud history in England's national sport, and the rich and varied communities of the county, particularly in Bradford, share a love for the sport.

To mark the ten year milestone, Yorkshire Cricket Foundation is running a series of ten exciting fundraising challenges for members of the public to get involved in.

These challenging events, which start in June and run until the end of September, range from hiking to swimming, running and even wing-walking on a biplane.

Cricket-lovers, adrenaline junkies and businesses are being urged to get involved in the challenges to raise as much money as possible to benefit some of the most disadvantaged people in Bradford and the county.

Will Saville, head of Yorkshire Cricket Foundation, said the charity is proud to have reached ten years of working in the county, and to start its #YCF10for10 campaign.

He said: “As a charity we are really proud to be able to use the power of cricket and the White Rose to help benefit the communities of Yorkshire.

"Our vision is to create ‘Community Without Boundaries’. We are not core funded and each year we have to raise all of our funds to deliver our projects, events and initiatives.

Geoff Major, from Involve Adventures, has been fantastic in putting together so many great fundraising challenges for people to get involved with and we are really grateful for his efforts.”

Yorkshire Cricket Foundation has partnered with Involve Adventures to organise the events this summer.

Geoff Major, chief executive of Involve Adventures, said: “Cricket was an important part of my life for 20 years and I have been completing challenges for ten years; so the opportunity to work with the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation is a perfect match."

England captain and Yorkshire star Joe Root, who is also an ambassador for the foundation, added: “It’s an exciting year for the Yorkshire Cricket Foundation.

"They do some fantastic work in Yorkshire’s communities and I’m hopeful that we can get lots of businesses and individuals on board with their 10 fundraising challenges."

Fellow ambassador and Yorkshire and England star Lauren Winfield said: “It’s important that we harness the power of cricket and use it to do good in Yorkshire.

"The Foundation have some great projects, working in health and wellbeing, education, participation and heritage and I hope that we manage to raise funds as well as awareness of their work."

Events this summer include the Leeds 5k Pizza Run, a Soapbox Race, an 11-hour cricket match, Yorkshire Three Peaks, wing walking, an Everest climbing challenge in Brighouse, English Channel swim-a-thon, barge pulling and cycling and rowing challenges.
