SUPERHEROES and adventure characters will be descending on the Odeon Cinema, in Thornbury, later this month when fans can see some of their favourite heroes close up.

The event will raise money for mental health charity, Mind, and has been organised by Saahib Qureshi.

Mr Qureshi, 23, from Queen's Road, Bradford, has worked at the Odeon Leeds-Bradford for four years but in his spare time is an entertainer.

He dresses as Spider-Man and last year attended Bradford Royal Infirmary in costume when the children’s and young person’s wards celebrated their first birthday with a tea party.

To help raise money for the unit he put on a superheroes event in Thornbury to highlight the new Marvels Studios film, Avengers: Infinity War.

He had hoped to raise £1,000 for Bradford Royal Infirmary's children's wards and was delighted to reach a total of £1,400.

This year he has invited superheroes characters to come along again and help him raise money for Mind.

"We are expected to have at least 15 to 20 characters this year so come on down and bring the family to this amazing event. One hundred per cent of the proceeds will be going to Mind," said Mr Qureshi.

He added that there may be some changes depending on availability but the characters due to appear so far to meet the fans are: Spider-Man, Stormtrooper CHR-15, Darth Vader, Kylo Ren, Mickey Mouse, Jack Sparrow, Samurai Stormtrooper, Imperial Officer, The Flash, Iron Man, Princess Belle, Rapunzel, Captain marvel, She-Rah, Batgirl and Harley Quinn.

He also hopes Princesses Elsa and Anna, along with Moana, will also come along.

"This is a free event but we hope people will give donations on the day. Characters are scheduled to appear from 1pm till 5pm and will vary on appearance. We will, however, be holding face painting until 5pm and cake sales and raffles all day.

"There will also be balloon sculptures, superhero selfies, photobooth selfies, a cake sale, raffle and tombola."

The Superhero Day is on Saturday, April 27.
