A TOWN Council could soon be moving into new offices in an unusual location.

Bingley Town Council currently rents office space in Cottingley Community Centre, but has submitted plans that will see its base re-located into a nearby toilet block.

The toilets in the town's Jubilee Gardens, near the entrance to Myrtle Park, were closed a year ago as part of cost cutting measures by Bradford Council. But a new planning application by the Town Council would see part of the building re-opened as toilets and the rest converted into office space.

The plans retain two accessible toilet blocks and add two meeting rooms and storage space for the Council.

If approved, new doors and windows will be added to the building, and a small entrance lobby built to the side.

A spokesman for the Town Council said: "The council is working very hard to re-provide public toilets in the centre of Bingley after they were shut last year. The plan is cost-effective and will give Bingley two accessible WCs with the rest of the space converted into office accommodation for the Town Council."

Since it was set up in 2016, the Town Council has taken on a number of responsibilities in the town, including organising regular markets.

A decision on the application is expected late next month.
