GUISELEY have sacked centre forward Reece Thompson after he was jailed for causing grievous bodily harm to a woman.

Thompson, 25, signed for Guiseley in 2017 but has not played for the National League North side since September last year.

The club issued a statement yesterday, which said: “The club is aware of the article today published in the Lincolnshire Echo regarding Reece Thompson.

“Having now been made aware of the full details of the case, we can confirm that the player’s contract has been terminated with immediate effect.”

The report referenced by the club said Thompson has been locked up for 40 months and handed a ten year restraining order for the attack which lasted three days.

It was reported he pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and damaging property at Nottingham Crown Court on April 3.

The victim was left with a broken jaw and severe bruising, it was reported, and that Thompson hit her with an iron bar and a mirror.

Thompson signed for the Lions from North Ferriby United, and has also had spells at Lincoln City, York City, Retford United and Frickley Athletic.

He spent the bulk of the 2017/18 season on loan at Boston United and made two league appearances for Guiseley this season.
