FAMILY friends of a Skipton girl fighting brain cancer raised £1,460 with a social night in Keighley.

Keighley duo Pacifics performed songs at the event at the Grafton Club on Oakworth Road.

Proceeds will help prolong the life of Laura Nuttall, a former Skipton Girls’ High School student who was diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer at the age of 19.

Her parents Nicola and Mark last autumn launched a fundraising campaign to allow their daughter as much life as possible.

April Goodchild, organiser of the event at the Grafton, said the night was a success.

She paid tribute to the Roman Catholic congregations at St Joseph’s Church in Ingrow and Our Lady of Lourdes in Haworth who raised £88 through collections at their services.

April added: “The raffle at the Grafton was a huge success and would like to thank all the hotels and local businesses a who donated such wonderful prizes."

The Pacifics, made up of local men John Greenwood and Luke Midgley, are now taking bookings. Anyone interested should call John on 07594 533411.

Laura Nuttall was diagnosed with brain cancer after she became ill just six weeks into her first term at Kings College University, in London, studying International Relations.

She saw a GP about her persistent and annoying headaches, then during a medical to join the University Navy Corps an optician recognised abnormalities behind her eyes.

CT and MRI revealed that Laura had six tumours, and following surgery the family was told she had Glioblastoma Multiforme, which is the most aggressive stage 4 brain cancer.

Laura is undergoing chemotherapy treatment, while her family researches immunotherapy treatments that may prolong her life beyond the expected 12 to 18 months.

The cost of groundbreaking DCVax immune therapy treatment is more than £150,000.

A GoFundMe webpage has so far raised £110,654, including the proceeds of the Grafton event.
