THE Saltaire Festival returns to the Bradford District this September, and events team leader Ros Garside has been talking up what is on offer for visitors during the 2019 edition.

She feels that there is something for everyone over the 10-day extravaganza and hopes it will be the most impressive festival to date.

She enthused: "It won't necessarily be bigger, but it will be better than ever before.

"It's the same size and variety but we're always trying to improve the quality. Both weekends will be centred around Roberts Park, with the focus on family and children for the first one.

"The finale weekend will see a host of food and drink markets in the park too, against a backdrop of great music.

"It's more than just about Roberts Park though, as there's plenty of indoor venues for poetry, theatre and comedy.

"We're also running photography and art exhibitions, as well as having professional sculptures.

"There's little cafes and craft events and we've even got pop ups in people's homes, with several people opening up their gardens to allow others to explore."

Asked about Saltaire's status as a World Heritage Site, Ms Garside said: "It's something we look to take advantage of with the festival.

"The purpose is to attract the local community but also to celebrate Saltaire for its heritage. We'll be making use of Salts Mill and Victoria Hall, as well as both churches in the village."

There will be plenty more activities for revellers to enjoy, with Ms Garside admitting: "We'll be running a pub trail featuring some of the newer pubs and bars in the village.

"In general though, we've pretty much tried to use all the space available in the village for our activities.

"If there's good weather, that will certainly help but obviously there's plenty of indoor stuff going on too."

She added: "Anyone can get in touch with us at any time, over email or through one of our social media channels, if they’d like to get involved, host a festival event or sponsor us.

"We will begin to announce events in late May and the full programme will be released by the end of July."

A press release sent out by the organisers of the 2019 Saltaire Festival confirmed the dates as September 13-22.

It also revealed that an impressive 35,000 people attended last year's event.
