PEOPLE have spoken of their shock and fear after a gunman fired shots at a home in a Bradford street.

The worrying attack unfolded at 10.36pm on Sunday in Agar Street, Girlington.

Armed police attended the scene and confirmed a gun had been fired, but no one was injured.

An investigation, led by West Yorkshire Police’s Firearms Prevent Team, has been launched and reassurance patrols were stepped up in the area yesterday.

Detective Inspector Anthony Scopelitti said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have information about this incident to come forward and are keen to speak to anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the time leading up to, or immediately after it.

“Unlawful possession of firearms or the discharging of such weapons will not be tolerated in West Yorkshire and we have launched a full investigation with partners into the circumstances to identify who was responsible.

Residents of the area shared their concern over the incident.

One man living close to where the home was shot said: "We got a knock on the door around midnight and the police told us what happened.

"It's scary because we are only a few doors away.

"There were so many police when I looked out of the window and they were all along the street.

One man said: “There’s always something going on.

“I’ve got kids, it’s not safe for them. I don’t care who you are, no-one has the right to do that.

“We all need a safe environment to live in. It’s not fair.

“I want them to get locked up for it.”

While another resident said: “It’s worrying, there’s kids living around here.

“It’s a shock.”

One mum said: “It’s very scary. When the kids come back from school, they are going to be scared.”

While another resident said: “We didn’t know what was going on until police arrived.

“I was surprised, you don’t expect that to happen.

“You hear plenty of cars flying through at speed, but you don’t hear anything about people firing off stuff.”

One woman said police banged on her door on Sunday night asking if she had heard anything.

She said she had been told the culprits had run down her street.

“Our doors were open at the time as well,” she said. “It’s scary.

“We were really shocked when we heard about it,” she said.

The woman said her little boy was asking questions on his way to school when he saw police.

“You don’t want to scare them,” she added.

“We’ve been here just two years - we’ve never had anything like that.

“We’re just shocked and worried because we don’t know what’s behind it.”
