A SMOKE alarm alerted a householder to a fire in the basement of their home in Shearbridge, Bradford this morning.
The fire was in the basement kitchenette in St Margaret's Road at 10am.
A deep fat fryer and a kitchen unit above it were destroyed in the blaze as were the electrics in the terrace house.
The father was woken up by the alarm and got his family out of the house.
The blaze was confined to the basement room.
Firefighters from Fairweather Green and Bradford fire stations attended the incident.
Two breathing apparatus were used to put out the fire and crews were on the scene for about an hour.
