ALMOST £350,000 in Government funding will be handed over to Bradford Council to help them repair potholes.

The local authority will receive £6,355,000 towards their road maintenance costs, which includes road re-surfacing, but £346,919 will be ring-fenced for potholes.

Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said: “Every motorist knows that potholes have been a problem in the last few years. That is why the government is continuing to step up its funding to local authorities to address this.

“It is now up to highways authorities to innovate and use new technologies to solve the problem."

Councils in Yorkshire and the Humber have been given more than £21 million for road maintenance to reward them for best practice. In total for maintenance and repairs during 2019/20, the region will be provided with more than £96 million.

The investment is on top of the £725m councils will receive in 2019/20, based on the infrastructure they maintain, including length of roads, bridges and street lights.
