A NEW retail park, including a restaurant and four commercial units, could be built at a major route into Bradford if new plans are approved.

Plans to demolish The Gallopers pub on Wakefield Road to make way for a new development were revealed earlier this month.

And now more details of what will replace the empty pub have been revealed in a new planning application submitted to Bradford Council.

The Redbeck Group plans to completely transform the site, creating a 400 square metre restaurant and 480 square metres of business space.

The application says that the development could create up to 40 jobs.

Striking artists’ impressions included in the application show that the development will be known as the Busfield Retail Park.

There would be 22 parking spaces on the site.

Plans for industrial building next to landmark church approved

The Gallopers pub is on one of the main routes into Bradford city centre from the M606.

The site has been empty and boarded up for a number of years, as well as being a target for vandalism.

A decision on planning application to demolish the pub is due to be made by the Council in the coming weeks.

The application to build the new retail park says the businesses will completely transform the site.

It adds; “The existing public house building was constructed during the 1970’s and has been disused for a number of years. The new proposal intends to regenerate the site in order to provide a new restaurant facility and four no. commercial units.

“The intention of this regeneration is to provide an aesthetic development that will draw customers to the area as well as provide employment.

“The site is on one of the primary entrances to Bradford when approaching from the South East. The current site offers little in terms of positive aesthetic impact upon visitors heading towards the city centre.

“The proposed site aims to better utilise the prominent location of the site in order to provide an improved aesthetic experience.”

Describing the restaurant, the plans say: “It makes use of the prominent corner location of the site in order to provide a striking and appealing aesthetic.

“The seating area of the building is situated in a large open plan single storey element of the building. This element of the building, which is predominantly orientated towards Wakefield Road, allows the restaurant to utilise natural light and presents an open and inviting façade to visitors approaching from the South East.”

Bradford Council are expected to make a decision on the plans in May.

The plans are one of several that could alter Wakefield Road in the coming years.

Late last year plans to build a 970 square foot industrial building on Ounsworth Street, just off Wakefield Road and next to St John’s Church, were approved by Bradford Council.

And earlier this year an application to turn the vacant Napoleon pub into offices for Bridge-It Enterprises were approved.

Work is currently underway to create a new junction where the road meets Neville Road and New Hey Road.

A roundabout and underpass is being replaced with traffic lights and pedestrian crossings.

Bradford Council says the changes to the junction will increase the capacity and improve the control of through traffic.
