YOUNG people are being urged to enter an annual charity calender competition run by local law firm Walker Morris.

The competition, marking its 25th anniversary, is open to all primary school age children.

All youngsters have to do is choose their favourite month and paint a picture which represents that month.

The 13 winners - one for each month and the front cover - will be chosen by an expert panel, and receive an art hamper and £250 for their school.

Money raised from sales of the calendar goes to Martin House Hospice.

David Smedley, chair of partners at Walker Morris, said: "We are delighted to be launching our 25th anniversary Walker Morris Children's Charity Calendar Competition.

"It really is a fantastic achievement to reach this special 25 year milestone. The longevity of the Calendar Competition is really down to the fantastic efforts of the children and the quality of the artwork they create.

"To do this the children are well supported by their teachers and the schools and we would like to thank them for their continued enthusiasm and support throughout the 25 year history of the calendar competition.

"We look forward to celebrating the 25th Calendar this year and have some very exciting events planned."

Yorkshire artist Ashley Jackson, a judge this year, added: "It fills me with great pride to be able to launch the competition for it provides a great focus, allowing children to shine equally through their art, rewarding solely on talent, skill and passion.

"I look forward to the yearly occasion of viewing the creative artwork and knowing that the competition is in some way inspiring the next generation of artists."
