A SCHOOL will not be "put on lockdown" this afternoon after fears of a fight between pupils were raised by parents.

Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College has moved to deny reports that pupils will not be allowed to leave the grounds between 2.30pm and 4.30pm today because of rumours suggesting some children were in danger of being attacked.

A parent, who has two children at the school but asked not to be named, said she had been told by her children the school had been “put on lockdown”.

She said: “There was a threat from another school – Grange Technology College – and there has been a police presence outside the school every evening.

“But the school won’t tell us what is going on. It’s very concerning because I have two children at the school.”

Paula Eastwood, business manager at the school, said the police presence arose out of an incident outside the Reevy Road West school on Monday, but no pupils were involved.

She added: "The students were kept in school to ensure their safety as safeguarding remains the schools highest priority.

"There are no plans to lockdown the students at the end of the day.

"The Police have supported the school throughout and although there has been no reoccurrence, the police will continue to assist for the near future."
