BUDGET supermarket chain Aldi has released an artist's impression of its new store due to be built in the £150 million urban village development at Bolton Woods.

Construction of the new 1,700 Sq.m. store, said to be creating around 40 jobs, is expected to start this summer following the signing of a contract with Canal Road Urban Village Ltd which is spearheading the area's development.

CRUVL is a joint venture company established by developers Urbo Regeneration and Bradford Council to grow a sustainable residential neighbourhood.

This phase of the development, located between Stanley Road and Canal Road, will also see the construction of a further 930 sq.m. retail unit developed next to Aldi which is currently being marketed by commercial agents Lamb & Swift.

Aldi is the second major retail occupier to be announced for the New Bolton Woods project, following Costa Coffee signing up last year for a new drive-through unit on the scheme.

Construction of the Costa building is currently under way, with an anticipated opening during April.

In a separate area of the development, Keepmoat Homes are currently in the process of delivering Phase 3 of the housing element of the scheme, comprising a further 145 dwellings, the first units being available for occupation soon.

Fifty new homes have already been built and CRUVL, partnering with housebuilder Keepmoat, is currently building another 150, priced to be affordable to first time buyers and families.

In addition to the new Aldi, local centre shops and new housing, New Bolton Woods will include a range of sport and leisure facilities to meet the needs of the area’s growing population.

Commenting on the significance of today’s announcement Peter Swallow, managing director of CRUVL said: “The contract we have signed with Aldi is a major step forward as we drive forward our bold plan to create the urban village.

“Aldi is the UK’s fastest growing discount supermarket chain, with more than 800 stores nationwide. With their reputation for great value and their wide range of products they will bring huge benefits to the community.

“Our mission is to create, in association with Bradford Council and major development partners, an attractive and welcoming community, one where people enjoy living and which provides job opportunities for local people.”

Bradford Council’s portfolio holder for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, said: “Long term regeneration of a local community must not only create new homes, shops and leisure facilities; it should also bring new hope and optimism to families and individuals who live there.

“We are very pleased to see bold, sustainable development now taking shape in Bolton Woods and are confident that our successful Canal Road Urban Village partnership with Urbo Regeneration will continue to deliver excellent results for both residents and businesses.”
