A MAN WHO had heard rumours about his girlfriend's relationship with another man deliberately drove his car at him, knocking him down and then got out and punched him repeatedly.

Joe Hardaker, 26, from Devon, attacked Callum Stanton on Thornhill Road, Brighouse.

Bradford Crown Court heard that Hardaker veered across the road to hit Mr Stanton who was waiting for a friend outside Pennywise last August.

The 19-year-old victim, who has a hole in the heart and ADHD, had never spoken to Hardaker. He was left with a cracked tooth, grazes and bruises.

Jailing Hardaker for a total of 13 months for dangerous driving and assault occasional actual bodily harm today, Judge Jonathan Rose said: "A quiet word would have been sufficient.

"Rumours are not to be acted on. You made use of a car as a weapon. You determined that you would use this car to run him over."

The Judge said CCTV of the incident showed that Hardaker "swung the car purposefully onto the pavement" and he took the law into his own hands.

Hardaker, who the court heard has Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. As well as the jail sentence he was given and unlimited restraining order, disqualified from driving for three years and must take an extended driving test.
