A PETITION calling for a residential road to be closed to through traffic will be discussed by Councillors.

A petition was presented to Bradford Council last year calling for officers to “make School Green, Thornton a private access-only road for residents.”

They argued that motorists using the road to cut between Thornton Road and Allerton Lane led to damage to cars parked, created congestion and put children at risk.

Valley Parade match-day parking restrictions to be decided

Officers met with residents and agreed that the best option was a closure at some point on Allerton Lane.

Any such traffic scheme would likely cost £32,000.

The plans will be further discussed at a meeting of Bradford Council’s Bradford West Area Committee, meeting at 6pm in City Hall on Wednesday.

Members have been advised to add the project to the list of schemes awaiting funding from the Council’s Safer Roads budget, and to consult with residents about the detail when funding is available.
