CALDERDALE Council has recognised the hard work and commitment of its longest serving staff at a special celebration event.

More than 20 members of staff have worked at the Council for more than 40 years. These staff, who work in a variety of roles, were invited to lunch with the Mayor of Calderdale, Councillor Marcus Thompson, to thank them for their work.

Among those who were recognised were Linda Smith, who has worked at Brighouse Library since 1974 and now also works at Shelf Library.

Jayne Wood, a lifeguard at Brighouse Pool, was also recognised, having begun working at Elland Swimming Pool in 1979 and then became a swimming teacher, having taught hundreds of people to swim over the years.

Cllr Thompson, said: “It was a privilege to host an event for some of our longest serving members of staff, who, with over 40 years of service each and almost 870 years of service between them, have all made important contributions to communities right across Calderdale.

“Vision 2024 celebrates the 50th year of Calderdale and some of these staff have been here since the very beginning. As we approach this important anniversary, I’m pleased we’ve been able to say thank you to these dedicated and talented staff for their ongoing work which has helped to shape our place and will contribute to our vision for the future.”
