Steeton u18s 2

Silsden u18s 3

STEETON and Silsden battled out a five-goal derby game at Summerhill Lane.

The game was competitive and played in the right spirit and it was a story of missed chances in the first-half that would turn out to cost Steeton by the end of the match.

The first chance fell to Will Kaye with good play down the right found Harry Farnell in the box he squared the ball into the run of the driving run of Will Kaye, who failed to get a good contact on the ball allowing the Silsden keeper to save from close range. Silsden took the lead with a fabulous strike from the edge of the area, the ball sat up nicely for the Silsden striker who fired an unstoppable strike on the half volley into the bottom corner leaving the stand in keeper Max Pearson no chance.

Chris Emmott nearly got Steeton level, when a lovely ball from young James Cox found Emmott ghosting in unmarked at the back post. He shot first time on the volley but unfortunately it was straight at the Silsden keeper.

Again Steeton nearly got level from Harry Farnell when he was found unmarked in the box from a good move down the left from Dominic Westcott, but he failed to get a good connection on the ball with his head and it tamely fell to the Silsden keeper.

Silsden increased their lead when a mistake in the Steeton defence was taken full advantage of.

Steeton needed a goal to get back in the game and started slightly better in the second-half, moving the ball a little bit quicker, but they just failed with their final pass erasing all the good work before hand.

The visitors increased their lead when the Steeton defence got punished again from slack play with another good finish into the bottom left-hand corner of the net from 18 yards out.

Harry Farnell was fortunate in getting a goal back for Steeton when his back post cross floated into the net giving Steeton a lifeline.

Then they made it two with Farnell's little chip pass was pulled down on the edge of the box by Westcott. He confidently finished into the bottom corner leaving the Silsden keeper no chance.

Steeton could not find that equalising goal, leaving Silsden to take all three points in their push to the finish line to try to win the league.
