A WEEKLY coffee morning has launched for men at Burtonwood Library to help address social isolation in the area.

The Silver Fox Club meet every Tuesday from 9.30am to 11.30am at the Chapel Lane library, following on from its first session on Tuesday, March 12.

The men who went along to the gathering decided on the name for the weekly meet-up - the Silver Fox Club.

Burtonwood Library staff decided to organise the group after hearing feedback that men felt there was a lack of social events and opportunities for them in the area. If the group is successful then it could potentially be rolled out to other libraries in Warrington, as needed.

Drinks and biscuits were donated by Burtonwood Co-op, Old Hall Spar and Asda Westbrook, and the men who attended enjoyed chatting over a brew and a biscuit or slice of cake. Burtonwood PCSO Neil Brown also attended the first session, to offer support and discuss any community issues. There was also the option to enjoy a game or cards or dominos and there are plans for potential other activities with the club as it grows.

Wendy Molyneux, strategic library manager for LiveWire, said: “There aren’t always the same opportunities for men to come together outside of family and sporting events so we are really pleased that this group has been set up by our team at Burtonwood Library.

“A men’s group is a way to give men a sense of purpose and fulfilment. It is not a spiritual group or a therapy group or a self-help group – it’s ordinary men with some ordinary and extraordinary experiences coming together to talk about life and share their stories.

“We are sure those who attend will make new friends, share ideas and support one another.”
