A picture request from a reader has pointed us in the direction of this fabulous photo of television’s bubbly chef, Rustie Lee, visiting Bradford in 1985.

The star guest, a regular on TV AM and Game For A Laugh, had the pleasure of meeting scores of excited children at John Taylor Garages, Manningham Lane, whilst parents and prospective buyers had a look around Nissan’s latest range, enjoying the music and refreshments.

Proprietor John Taylor, who lived in Barnsley with his wife, and three children, had managed to turn around the refurb on the Thornton Engineering site in just seven weeks.

Mr. Taylor, who had been working in car sales for the last 16 years, said: “I think Bradford’s being reborn again, I don’t believe it’s the dying town people have led us to believe.” One of his aims was to make car-buying a family affair and hoped to provide children’s play equipment in the showrooms to entertain youngsters while their parents were looking at vehicles.
