PLANS to demolish a fire station and build a new Co-Op store in its place will go before Councillors for a second time next week.

A decision on the plans for the former Haworth Fire Station site at the junction of Bridgehouse Lane and Station Road were due to be decided last month by Bradford Council's Keighley and Shipley Area Planning Panel.

But after 40 minutes of discussing the plans a representative of the applicants Dalehead Properties told members they had been looking at the wrong plans for the site - which omitted a pedestrian crossing that would be included in the finished scheme.

Decision on Co-op plan deferred after councillors look at WRONG plans

Members agreed to defer the decision until they could be certain they were being shown the correct plans.

Chair of the committee Councillor Doreen Lee (Lab, Keighley East) said at the last meeting: “As a planning committee we expect the right plans in front of us. If we don’t then we end up with egg on our face. We’ll look like bloody idiots.

“We can’t make a decision if we don’t have the right plan. We have to defer this to the next meeting, otherwise there will be egg on my face and egg on this committee's face. If this went to an appeal then we’d have had it.”

The application goes before the panel when it next meets on Wednesday morning in Keighley Town Hall at 10am.

The plans have been recommended for approval.
