A DEVELOPMENT of 98 new affordable homes could be built on a disused quarry.

An application, for the Chellow Grange Quarry, Haworth Road, has been submitted by Home Group and Strategic Team Group.

The application says: “Home Group’s design philosophy is that great places to live improve people wellbeing and are sought after; generating value for residents, Home Group and the environment.

“The vision for Chellow Grange is to deliver a bespoke design solution with high quality architecture that provides a cost efficient and sustainable development.”

The parcel of land proposed for the development is to the south of Haworth Road and the west of Chellow Grange Road in Heaton.

The application says the development would be a mixture of “good quality” one, two and three-bedroom properties and would be “100 per cent affordable”.

There would be twelve one-bedroom apartments, 53 two-bedroom homes and 33 three-bedroom homes.

A supporting statement lodged with the application says: “Of the 100 per cent affordable housing to be provided, 30 per cent will be shared ownership and 70 per cent will be provided as affordable or social rent.”

It adds: “Bradford has a considerable waiting list for affordable housing.

“This development will provide much needed affordable housing to the residents of Bradford.

“The tenures on offer via this proposal will suit those seeking to purchase a home of their own and those seeking to rent

“ Shared ownership accommodation will help those on lower incomes to acquire a home with a nominal deposit.

“Affordable rent will provide residents with a rent below market value from a regulated provider offering security of tenure.”

The application also gives further information about community consultation carried out.

It says concerns had been raised about the principle of housing on the site, the increase of traffic flow on nearby roads and the need to provide green space of wildlife.

A “number of residents” also raised concern about being overlooked by the new development.

In response to concern about increase in traffic, the application says the views of a highways consultant were sought and it was found the access point was suitable for the site.

It also says the site of allocated for residential development, and has previously been granted consent, with this access point.

Following the consultation, some changes were made to the final plans.
