‘ON your bike’ was the order of the day at Buzz Bingo Bradford City, as staff, family and friends completed a mammoth 714 mile Bike Ride to raise funds for former colleague Amy Meskiri.

The 25-year-old is seeking to raise £100,000 to enable her to get to Germany for treatment unavailable in this country, after her breast cancer returned for the second time.

Bev McLoughlin and Melissa Swift came together with the plan to do the virtual bike ride to help their former workmate.

Ms Swift said: "We just wanted to do what we could to raise money for Amy.

"We thought doing a virtual bike ride of the distance from here to Germany was a good way to show our support for her trying to get there herself.

"It all came together well, with the team wanting to get involved as much as possible, despite some of them not having done any exercise for years.

"Having given themselves scope to complete the huge distance over the full weekend, they managed to smash their target, completing it within 36 hours.

Ms McLoughlin added: "Everyone put their all in and it was really nice to have Amy come in and cheer us on for the last few miles because we know it took great courage and determination to come in.

"We’ve raised about £1,600 already from table collections during sessions, and are just waiting for the final amount raised from the bike ride from everyone’s sponsors."

Buzz Bingo's general manager, Andrew Whitworth, said: "I am massively proud of the effort that the team put in.

"Amy is a lovely girl who is fondly thought of by everyone who knows her. We just wanted to try and do our bit.

"We would also like to say a big thank you to EasyGym, who loaned us 3 of their bikes to be able to complete the challenge."
