STUDENTS turned out in force at a recent Brexit Question Time featuring local and national political figures at Bradford College.

The panel of Bradford West MP Naz Shah, former Council Conservative Group leader Councillor Simon Cooke, vocal supporter of a People’s Vote Femi Oluwole, and former Bradford College tutor Umit Yildiz, chaired by Bradford College’s Piers Telemacque.

During the debate last week, panellists explained their views on the Brexit vote before being grilled by members of the packed out audience.

Among discussions were respecting the result of the EU referendum, aims by the EU to create a “European superstate”, and whether voters had been misinformed through inaccurate or misleading information put out to voters ahead of the referendum, and whether there should be a People’s Vote for the public to have a final say.

Panellists also locked horns over the economic impacts of leaving the European Union, Britain’s role in a global economy outside the EU, what motivated people to vote in the ways they did, and how the UK moves forward from the current impasse in Parliament.

A spokesperson for Bradford College said: “The packed house was treated to stimulating and thought-provoking discussion, with different shades of opinion from an audience sharing fears, dreams and ideas about the future of Britain in a post-Brexit world.”
