BRADFORD District Credit Union has set up its latest Lifesavers programme in Bradford’s schools, with a special guest visiting for the opening.
The programme has been set up at St John’s CE Primary School in Bierley, to give children an understanding of money and the benefits of saving from a young age.
Revd Canon Vaughan Pollard supports the scheme and visited the school to celebrate the launch of the scheme.
A total of 45 pupils have signed up to take part, and St John’s is the latest school to sign up for the scheme which started four years ago.
Andrew Knight, headteacher, said: “The Lifesavers accounts has offered our pupils a hands-on experience of managing their own money.
“Handling and taking responsibility for their own money are both vital parts of their learning.
“It brings increased opportunities for children to discuss the important of saving money. The children have an opportunity to put into practice their learning about money in a real life, meaningful context.”
