A GROUP of horse riders are taking to the saddle next month to highlight a safety campaign aimed at slowing drivers down as they approach or overtake horses on the road.

Julie Evans said the local ride is on Sunday, April 14, for the Pass Wide And Slow campaign and emulates around 70 similar rides which are taking place on the same day throughout the country.

The group will be starting out from Buck Lane bridleway, near Shipley, and will ride for around a mile down Otley Road.

There will be riders along with walkers and some lead rein ponies and children. Hopefully local rambler groups and cycling groups will go along too and offer support.

Ms Evans said: "The roads are dangerous and with all our off roads routes being built on we are finding it more and more difficult to find any decent riding/walking without hitting the roads."
