THERE are just a few days left to help shape how Bradford's new city centre market will look.

The consultation on plans to create a new food market on Darley Street will close on Monday, and Bradford Council says there has already been a "strong response" to the consultation.

Over 1,000 online surveys have been completed and more than 100 submissions were gathered at drop-in sessions held in key locations across the district.

Bradford Council wants to discover people’s opinions on the plans, their shopping and leisure preferences, and ideas on how to encourage more city centre shopping visits.

The Darley Street proposals include building a modern market with a dedicated underground servicing area and a new public space to host outdoor stalls and specialist open air events.

Bradford city centre to see drastic Darley Street makeover

The Council believes the development would add to Bradford’s draw as a shopping and leisure destination and attract more people into the city.

A planning application has also been submitted, and people can comment on issues like access and parking through the planning portal until May 20.

The plans will see the city centre food market moved to this building, with non food items being sold at a refurbished Kirkgate Market.

The existing Oastler Market will be closed and flattened to make way for a new "urban village."

Coun Alex Ross-Shaw, Portfolio Holder for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “We are delighted that there has been so much interest in this major project.

“The new food market should be transformational so we are very keen hear as much feedback as possible.

“The markets could help redefine Darley Street and the city centre, and showcase the fantastic Victorian buildings on Piccadilly by making them a lot more visible.

“Shoppers, traders and other stakeholders will be critical to the success of the development so we are listening very carefully to people’s feedback.”
