THE fire service is issuing an urgent message to people after a family were lucky to escape a kitchen fire in the early hours of this morning.
Crews from Fairweather Green and Shipley were called to the blaze at a house in Briardale Road, Heaton, at 3.30am today to reports of a kitchen fire.
A spokesperson from Fairweather Green said luckily the fire was not too serious, and luckily the family escaped uninjured.
However, it could have been a completely different story if the fire had been more serious, as the house had no working smoke alarms fitted.
The fire service said this "reiterates the importance of having working smoke alarms fitted in your house".
The cause of the blaze is currently being investigated.
