DETAILED plans have been submitted for the first phase in what will be a 4 kilometre cycle track linking towns in Wharfedale.

The Wharfedale Greenway would turn a disused rail line into a cycling and walking route linking Pool, Otley and Burley in Wharfedale.

An outline application was initially submitted to Bradford Council earlier this year, but that has now been withdrawn and a full bid is being submitted instead to both Bradford and Leeds councils.

Plans for first phase of ambitious cycle route in Wharfedale submitted

The greenway will follow the route of a railway line that has been out of operation for over 50 years - the Arthington to Burley railway.

It is intended that the greenway route will provide a largely traffic-free, safe, accessible and attractive route, serving pedestrians, cyclists and horseriders.

The plans will see the route upgraded, with new surfacing, access links and ramps, as well as bridges where former railway bridges have been removed.
