PLANS to build new apartments in Heaton have been refused over concerns they would overlook neighbouring properties.

An application to build a two-storey block of five apartments and a two-storey block of two apartments at Pasture Walk in Clayton, a cul-de-sac, had been submitted by a Mr Malik last year.

His application said the new buildings would fit in with the surrounding area, and Clayton Parish Council had not objected to the proposals.

Development of shops and flats on Leeds Road will 'make a statement'

Planning officers at Bradford Council said the smaller building would be acceptable, but raised concerns over the five flat building, to be built at the end of the cul-de-sac and overlook neighbouring 109 Pentland Avenue.

They said: "The first floor windows in the rear elevation will subsequently have unrestricted views of the private amenity space at close quarters. Further to this the position and scale of the building will result in the establishment of an overbearing relationship and increase in overshadowing that will also harm the occupants of this property."

Officers also raised concerns over how protected trees on the site would be affected by the development.
