BRADFORD district MPs are due to vote tonight on Theresa May's final Brexit deal and the result is hard to predict after she worked out a new formula with the EU for the backstop last night.

Shipley MP Philip Davies says he is in two minds about whether he will vote for the Prime Minister's deal while Keighley MP John Grogan, Batley and Spen MP Tracy Brabin and Otley MP Alex Sobel have said they will vote against it.

Other Bradford district MPs have not yet responded to requests about how they are due to vote.

Mr Davies said: “The Prime Minister’s deal remains a poor deal but, given that so many MPs - who are out of tune with the public - seek to overturn the referendum result, the question is do I vote for a poor deal or risk something much worse. It is an invidious position to be put in and I haven’t yet decided how to vote.

“If the Prime Minister’s deal is voted down I will vote to leave with no deal on WTO terms, and I will vote against any attempts to delay our departure from the EU. We must deliver what the public voted for it it will be a democratic betrayal which would lead to a huge backlash.”

Keighley MP John Grogan said: "I think the Backstop is a good thing as it guarantees no hard border in Ireland and helps preserve peace.

"I will vote against the Prime Minister's deal primarily because I believe it is in reality a blind Brexit. It buys a few months of stability but effectively kicks all the difficult decisions about our relationship with Europe down the road. It will mean years ahead of wrangling which will not be good for business or jobs. After we are out our negotiating position will be much weakened - all details of any new trade deal with the European Union would have to be agreed by all the European Union Governments.

"If the deal fails I would vote against no deal.

"Keighley manufacturing companies tell me would threaten exports and jobs. I think that it is hard to assume that everybody who voted for Brexit voted for no deal even if a significant number did.

"I would then vote for a short extension of article 50."

Ms Brabin said she would not be supported Theresa’s May’s deal this evening.

Mr Sobel said he would not be voting for the Withdrawal Agreement. He said he had consistently voted and organised for an extension to article 50.
